Foundations for steel halls

The erection of a steel hall requires the construction of foundations. Foundations of the steel hall are responsible for the proper transfer of loads from the steel structure to the ground and the stability of the steel hall, without the risk of collapse or excessive settlement. Properly designed and properly constructed foundations provide safety, durability, soundness of the entire steel hall structure.

What kind of foundation for a steel hall?

The choice of foundation parameters requires the analysis of many factors such as:

  • ground conditions (soil conditions) at the site
  • type of terrain
  • adjusting the type of foundation to the size of the hall
  • planned depth of foundation of the structure
  • cladding of the hall (the foundation for the hall made of sandwich panels or trapezoidal board hall foundation)

For this reason, it is necessary to commission a geological survey and, based on this, to choose the foundation option for the steel structure.

Ground conditions - construction of a foundation for a steel hall

Foundation design for steel hall requires an understanding of the ground conditions at the site. The geotechnical analysis includes, in particular:

  • type and depth of soil
  • Groundwater levels and their periodic fluctuations
  • ground behavior during frost
  • soil bearing capacity

Complete soil analysis for steel hall construction allows you to make the correct foundation design. This ensures that maximum stable and safe foundations are obtained, which will not settle or change their properties in the future.

IMPORTANT!

Remember that ordering a soil analysis is an essential matter that should be done as soon as possible after deciding to build a steel hall on the site. Such a geotechnical study is worth commissioning even BEFORE purchasing a given plot of land, to make sure that the construction of the planned building can proceed without any complications.

Foundations for a steel hall - poor workmanship

Incorrectly designed or improperly constructed foundations for steel halls carry serious risks:

  • soil deformations
  • excessive building settlement
  • Disruption of building stability
  • building moisture
  • in extreme cases – building disaster

Therefore, the design and solid construction of the foundation must not be neglected. When in doubt – it is best to outsource this stage of hall construction to HalMod specialists.

Preparation of the ground for the construction of foundations

If you order HalMod steel halls, you can do the groundwork and foundation construction on your own, or you can use our ground preparation and foundation construction services for your steel hall.

In order to properly prepare the ground for the construction of foundations it is necessary to remove the top layer of soil and then proceed to excavate for foundation footings, foundation slab or footings. The soil obtained later can be used to backfill the foundations.

Types of foundations for steel halls:

  • point foundations – footings, or drilled foundations (we offer to make such foundations for our clients). This type of foundation is recommended for smaller objects, such as halls 08 and 12, for a maximum of 3-4 modules, it is recommended to connect them with a foundation of curbs.
  • surface foundations – foundation slabs, that is, foundations under the entire surface of the building (we can make such foundations for our customers), this type of foundations can be made even for buildings with an area of 2000 m2.
  • linear foundations – footingsthat is foundations along the contour of the hall (we have the ability to make such foundations for our customers)

Foundation footings for steel halls

It is a modern, robust type of point foundations, which ensures rapid progress of work and excellent stabilization of the building. This type of foundation is most often chosen for the construction of smaller steel halls – such as halls 08 and 12, for a maximum of 3 – 4 modules. Precast concrete or reinforced concrete footings with appropriate reinforcement are adapted to the size of the steel structure and provide very good stabilization of the building. Once the footings are placed at the proper depth, they are poured with concrete for maximum stability. Concrete blocks used as footings additionally have appropriate reinforcement and elements to connect the hall structure to the foundations. Foundation footings for steel halls They are additionally protected from moisture, which has a positive effect on their durability and usability. We recommend underpinning made of curbs, for example, so that a horizontal connection of the slab can be made.

Depending on ground conditions, footings are made as direct foundation or indirect foundation.

Foundations providing direct foundation for steel halls

This type of foundation is most commonly used for steel halls. They are made quite shallow below the ground surface, below the frost zone. This type of foundation is used for soils with sufficiently good bearing capacity, but if necessary, it is possible to compact or replace the soil to allow the use of this type of foundation even for soils with slightly inferior bearing capacity.

Foundations providing intermediate foundation for steel halls

In the case of soil with weak bearing parameters (non-bearing or weak-bearing soil), it may be necessary to prepare intermediate foundation – foundation piles, which extend into the supporting soil. However, for lightweight structures such as steel halls, such a solution is usually not necessary.

Foundation slab for steel halls

Foundation slab under the entire building surface is chosen by many investors when building a steel hall. This type of foundation is also recommended by us. The foundation slab has many advantages, that are also of particular importance for residential construction:

  • effective thermal insulation
  • high resistance to groundwater elevation
  • fast execution time
  • possibility of implementation in case of soils with weaker bearing capacity

If, in the case of building foundations for a steel hall, you decide to choose a foundation slab, we can also comprehensively carry out such an order.

Linear foundations - footings for steel halls

In the case of HalMod steel halls, such a solution is rarely used. This type of foundation that requires making footings and foundation walls is usually used in the construction of single-family houses or other low masonry buildings. In the construction of steel halls, however, such traditional foundations can be used, for example, if the project plans masonry walls within the hall, for example. fire walls.

The cost of foundations for a steel hall

The price of making a foundation for a steel hall structure depends on a number of factors that affect the amount and type of materials used and the scope of work that must be done to make a solid foundation for a steel hall.

The main factors affecting the price of steel hall foundations:

  • size of the steel hall
  • The condition of the soil at the site of the steel hall construction
  • the need for soil reinforcement or replacement
  • geological conditions
  • The need for additional work, such as the construction of foundation piles
  • high groundwater level
  • the need for additional reinforcement or insulation

Foundation for halls - price

Construction of foundations depends on the design of the hall and its function. Therefore foundation design is selected individually, according to the needs and requirements of the investor. Cost of foundations starts from PLN 400 net/m2 for simple ground conditions, up to 700 m/m2 for more difficult ground conditions. In the case of Foundation feet cost is an average of PLN 1,500/net per unit.
